Ukrainian Writer,
Curator and Researcher

Kateryna Iakovlenko is a Ukrainian writer, curator, and researcher whose work unfolds at the intersection of contemporary art, the documentation of war, memory studies, language of war, and visual anthropology. Her current research turns toward the material culture of war, focusing on ruins, rubble, and fragments, and how these remnants shape the stories we tell about history and the memories we carry forward.

Having experience in journalism, art criticism, and curatorial work, she brings an interdisciplinary sensibility to understanding how war is culturally experienced and how its echoes linger long afterward. She approaches culture as a space where answers are sought amid the everyday realities of war and its aftermath.

Her work probes the relationships between people, objects, archives, and memory, attending closely to the ethical and political weight of cultural and epistemological production and justice in times of war. Through exhibitions, essays, and research, she traces the connections between artistic practice and violence, displacement, and historical rupture — dwelling on the visible and invisible marks that ruins leave behind.

She is an editor-in-chief of Suspilne Kultura, a branch of Ukraine's public broadcaster Suspilne, where she guide the coverage of cultural life throughout the full-scale Russian invasion.
